Dinosaur Footprints

Dinosaurier-Spuren

Did you know there are real dinosaur footprints in the Valle Maira?
Up on the Gardetta Plateau, near Rocca la Meja, ancient trackways are pressed into the rock – a fascinating window into Earth’s history, right in the mountains.

The prints were left by plant-eating dinosaurs that waded through a tropical shallow sea over 200 million years ago – long before the Alps existed. Today they sit at over 2,000 metres and are freely accessible.

👣 The trip up there is:

 – family-friendly

 – scenically spectacular

 – a true highlight for little (and grown-up) explorers

👉 Please keep to the paths – the footprints are protected and at risk from erosion.
