In a single handful of healthy soil live more micro-organisms than there are people on Earth. Billions of bacteria, fungi, algae and tiny creatures make plants grow, store water and keep nutrients cycling.
🌱 Microbes…
– break down organic matter, like leaves or compost
– supply plant roots with nutrients
– keep soil loose and fertile
– store carbon – a natural contribution against climate change
But microbes are sensitive.
Pesticides, soil compaction, artificial fertiliser or constant digging can destroy this invisible world – often for good.
P.S.: When you walk barefoot across a meadow, you are touching perhaps the greatest invisible ecosystem of all. And every step can be a conscious one.
