Pine Reserve

Kiefernschutzgebiet

Here begins a small natural wonder: an ancient pine reserve – a living monument to our Alpine wilderness. It forms part of the Natura 2000 network and is home to rare, endemic pines that reveal much about the history and strength of this valley.

🔍 Did you know?

– Some of these pines have stood for hundreds of years – perhaps even close to a thousand – a testament to endurance in a constantly changing world.

– They are true one-offs: there is nowhere quite like this – not in Italy, nor anywhere else.

– What is more, there are only a few pine reserves nationwide that safeguard such exceptional stands – this is one of them.

🌱 What makes these trees so special?

– Their deep roots anchor peat soils and prevent erosion – all without human intervention.

– In their shade grow delicate plants that many other places have long lost.

– And their dense needles store rainwater, cooling the landscape like a natural air-conditioning system for the valley.
